Buy through a local installer if you need one party to survey, install and coordinate the site. Consider a factory-supplied pergola if you already have competent local installers and can coordinate delivery and site work. Compare the completed project scope before comparing the frame quotation.
What are you actually buying?
A pergola listing may describe only the aluminum frame and roof. An installed quotation may include a survey, delivery and assembly, but still exclude foundations or electrical work. Neither label tells you the complete scope. Ask each seller to mark every item as included, excluded or provisional, and request the drawing used to price the order. A photograph cannot establish the covered dimensions, usable clearance or accessory specification.
If your aim is a finished outdoor dining area, start with that outcome. The purchase needs to connect the product, your site and the people doing the work. A lower supply quotation is useful only after you know who will complete the remaining tasks.
Can a homeowner order one pergola from a factory?
JY Home Shade accepts orders starting from one set. That makes a single residential project possible, but does not turn a factory order into a local installation service. Before confirming, arrange a local survey, check who can receive the packages and identify an installer willing to work from the approved drawings and installation material.
Ask for package dimensions and unloading requirements before choosing a delivery address. A residential street, narrow gate or upper-floor terrace may need a different delivery plan. Shipping and local handling should be separately confirmed for your destination.
Compare the same usable space
Two offers described as 4 x 6 metres may place the posts, gutters and clear openings differently. Compare the dimensioned footprint, internal clearance, finished height, roof operation and accessory openings. If a sliding door or dining table is the reason for buying, mark it on the plan and check that it still works after the posts and tracks are added.
Also match the motor, controls, lighting and side protection. A rain-management roof with open sides should not be compared with an enclosed sunroom as if both delivered the same weather protection.
Who answers when something needs attention?
Agree who diagnoses a fault, removes a component, supplies a replacement and pays any local labour or freight. Ask how the order and component versions are identified. Keep the approved drawing, packing list and product references together rather than depending on a messaging history.
For a direct factory purchase, local installation and service responsibilities need an explicit plan. Installation videos can support the installer, but do not replace the site survey, qualified electrical work or the instructions for the delivered system.
Before you commit
| Decision area | Information to confirm |
|---|---|
| Survey and design | Who measures and signs off the final drawing? |
| Site work | Who checks supports, prepares foundations and repairs paving? |
| Delivery | Where does delivery end, and who unloads and moves the packages? |
| Electrical work | Who supplies, connects and tests the power and controls? |
| After-sales | Who handles diagnosis, parts, labour and freight? |
Your next-step checklist
- Ask both suppliers to quote the same drawing and accessory list.
- Request written inclusions and exclusions for all five scope areas.
- Confirm local installer availability before committing to a delivery date.
- Keep an allowance for unresolved site work rather than treating it as free.
Questions buyers ask
Is factory-direct always cheaper?
Not necessarily. Compare the complete delivered and installed scope, including local work and service arrangements. The factory price alone cannot answer that question.
Does the 20-25 day lead time include delivery?
The typical JY Home Shade production window is 20-25 days after order details are confirmed. Freight, customs, local delivery and installation are separate scheduling items.
