Ask for limits that apply to the quoted configuration
Record the awning model, width, projection and installation arrangement together. A performance statement for a different size or fixing condition is not enough to assess your order. Ask the supplier to explain any conditions attached to the stated operating limits.
Markilux's manufacturer FAQ treats wind resistance, installation and weather controls as system-specific questions. Use the same discipline when comparing quotations: request documentation for the system you are buying, rather than transferring another brand's ratings.
Separate fabric claims from rain-use approval
Ask whether rain use is permitted for the proposed assembly and, if so, under what pitch, drainage and operating conditions. A fabric description by itself does not answer how water leaves the extended awning or whether the assembly is approved for that use.
Clarify the required action if rain starts while the awning is extended, and how to care for the fabric if it must be retracted wet. Request the selected supplier's instructions; do not substitute a generic cleaning or drying procedure for the supplied material.
If keeping a dining area available during rain is central to the project, state that requirement before selecting a shade product. Compare the operating limitations of an awning and a pergola, including open sides and drainage, without assuming either is an all-weather enclosure.
Confirm what the controls actually do
For a motorized awning, request a control schedule identifying any included sensors, what each sensor detects and which action follows. “Automatic” is not a complete description of the operating sequence.
- Is a wind or rain sensor included, optional or unavailable for this configuration?
- Who sets up and checks the controls during installation?
- What should the operator do before leaving the site unattended?
- What happens during a power interruption, and is any recovery method provided?
- Which checks and maintenance does the supplier require?
Do not assume a sensor removes the need to follow operating limits. Ask for the written handover instructions alongside the equipment list.
Plan for the people who will operate it
At a restaurant or hotel, identify who is responsible for checking conditions, retracting the awning and completing the end-of-day check. Keep the control accessible to staff and make the supplier's instructions available at handover.
Describe site exposure: an open terrace, a sheltered courtyard and a high-level balcony present different situations. Provide photographs of the building and surrounding space, not only the area directly below the awning. Ask the installer to review the mounting substrate and proposed fixing arrangement.
Include weather expectations in the quotation brief
Send the location, approximate width and projection, wall photos, mounting height and the hours you expect to use the shade. Add whether the space is residential or staffed commercially and what you expect during changing weather.
Ask the quotation to identify the awning and fabric references, mounting scope, motor/control package, applicable operating instructions and exclusions. Separate supply, shipping and local installation responsibilities.
Use the awning measurement guide for preliminary dimensions, then review retractable awning options. Final sizes and mounting details need confirmation for the chosen system.
Questions buyers ask
Does a full cassette make an extended awning weatherproof?
No. The housing description does not establish the permitted conditions when the awning is extended. Confirm the model-specific operating instructions.
Can I use a universal wind-speed limit from the internet?
Do not apply a generic number to an unverified configuration. Request the limit and conditions for the actual size, installation and system being supplied.
Can a sensor replace an operating procedure?
No. Confirm the sensor functions and limitations, and follow the supplier’s instructions for supervision, retraction and maintenance.
Specify the shade and operating requirements together
Send patio dimensions, mounting photos and how you expect to use the awning. Mark any details that still need a site check.
