Ask about the complete system
Identify the drive, controller, sensors and separately powered accessories. A motor brand alone does not describe how the complete installation behaves when power fails or returns. Ask the supplier to explain both conditions for the quoted configuration.
For multiple bays, clarify which controls and supplies are shared. The practical question is which functions remain available and what the operator must check before using the roof again.
Do not assume a manual override
Request written confirmation of any designed manual facility, how it is accessed and who may use it. Do not force blades, detach a drive or improvise a crank. A procedure from a different motor or mechanism may be unsuitable.
JY180, JY220 and JY250 use rotating louvers; JY280 uses a retractable folding roof. Their operating instructions are not interchangeable. JY160 is a manual rotating-louver option to compare when powered operation is not required.
Clarify sensor and backup claims
A sensor is not a substitute for a power supply. Ask which controller receives its signal and which functions remain available during an interruption. Automatic rain response should not be interpreted as a guarantee of closure in every outage.
If backup power is proposed, the supplier and qualified installer should confirm compatibility, connected loads and intended operation. Do not assume an off-the-shelf battery or UPS supports the complete installation. List any backup equipment explicitly in the quotation.
Plan the restart and service procedure
Request the procedure for restoring normal use, including checks before roof movement. Keep people and movable items clear of the operating area. Stop if operation is abnormal and report the condition rather than repeatedly commanding movement.
Do not copy an online reset sequence for an unidentified controller. Resetting may change commissioning settings. Record the order reference, affected bay, equipment labels and observations for the service provider. Electrical diagnosis and controller adjustments belong with the qualified installer.
Include continuity in the buying brief
Explain the intended use and whether interruption of powered operation creates a particular concern. A restaurant and a private patio may have different operational priorities even when the roof size is similar.
Request user instructions, weather procedures, power-loss behaviour, any specified backup and a commissioning record at handover. Distinguish standard controls from optional features so a general discussion does not become an assumed product promise.
Buyer questions
Will the rain sensor close the roof during a power cut?
Do not assume so. Confirm the supply and backup arrangement for the complete system.
Can I move the roof by hand?
Use only a manual procedure expressly provided for the supplied system; never force the mechanism.
